Seniors Hobbies Add Zing To Their Lives!
Do you have any seniors hobbies?
Are you fifty years of age or older? Have you ever looked into any seniors hobbies? Let me tell you why you should!
1. Hobbies for seniors are dependable prescriptions for improving physical health.
2. They’re even accused of increasing age longevity.
3. They fine tune your mental mechanisms and help keep them crisp and sharp.
4. They open new doors for your social life.
5. And they’re guilty of filling your days with zing.
We’ll talk about zing later!
There are more pastimes that could qualify as senior hobbies than you can shake the proverbial stick at. The candidates are virtually numberless.
Here are some categories that somebody, somewhere, is already engaging in as a hobby.
Antiques/Arts and Crafts/Collecting any of thousands of things/Cooking/Electronics/Games/Gardening/Internet Hobbies/Literature/Scale Models/Music/Outdoor and Indoor Activities/Photography/Performing Arts/Toys.
The interesting thing about all of the listed categories is each group is chock full of sub categories.
What do you like to do? Do you enjoy playing golf or tennis? Are you an avid grower of flowers? Does stamp collecting start your juices flowing. Is the thought of cooking gourmet meals your answer to friends coming for dinner?
Whatever you are enthusiastic about you will find other people just as eager as you are to learn more about and discuss at length. Some seniors hobbies involve ball room dancing. There are probably groups in your very area doing it on a regular basis. They’d welcome you with open arms, literally.
The physical and mental exercise involved in senior hobbies can do wonders for you. As a matter of fact, physical workouts at a gym, or just walking in the neighborhood can be the answer to your well being.
You’ll be able to meet other seniors feeling just as enthusiastic about your hobby as you are. Once you decide upon a hobby area of interest, check the local newspaper. Look for the mention of gatherings, or information about others doing the same hobby.
Medical science has learned recently about the physical and mental connection in the human body. For example, if the hobby you are interested in requires a minimal of physical activity, you will still benefit physically from the mental activity.
How?
The mental stimulation of engaging in a senior hobby you enjoy, translates into a form of physical activity. Not as emphatic as a strenuous workout in a gym.
But researchers tell us that it still creates virtual, physical effort at the cellular level. The physical responses may be subtle, but the benefits of it are nevertheless felt by the body.
Finally, lets talk about zing. No, it’s not a far eastern philosophy from Asia. The best definition of zing would be to categorize it as your feelings about the life you lead. Do you awake each morning with an eagerness for the day ahead?
Or are you just as weary as when you laid down the night before? Do you want to mentally spring out of bed and charge full bore into the newly born day?
Or do you dawdle in bed trying to put off getting up and going through another boring daily routine? Do you actually look forward to bedtime in the evening so you can fall asleep again?
If your answers to the latter questions are yes…then my friend you need the zing, and all else, that a senior hobby will give your life. You are in serious need of enthusiasm, anticipation and the social companionship that a senior hobby will bring into your life.
Start a senior hobby today! Go for it!
Treating Insomnia With Music Therapy
What is insomnia? Insomnia is a condition where people have trouble falling asleep, staying asleep or having a restful night sleep. Often times people who suffer from insomnia will turn to sleeping pills to get relief. Sleeping pills is a bad idea, because it will just create more problems.
What is the problem with sleeping pills? Pills are a bad idea because most sleeping pills are addictive, and basically are just a mask to what the real problem is. It also causes problems when you interact with other medications or alcohol, which can be very serious or even deadly. People who are prescribed medication are usually supposed to be on them for a few days to a few weeks only, but because they can be addictive people tend to take them longer. Pills can also cause high blood pressure, dizziness, nausea, confusion. It also can cause bizarre behavior such as sleep walking, sleep binge eating and sleep driving, in which the person will not remember.
Why it is so important to get a good night sleep? Sleep is necessary to maintain good physical and mental health. Sleep helps you to restore your body and mind, to help with memory and learning, also to help you be in a better mood. When you are sleep deprived, your body is more prone to infections, diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. Also when you are sleep deprived it can effect your job performance, such as forgetfulness or making mistakes, which can cause you to lose your job. So it is very important to get a good 7-8 hours of sleep if you are an adult, and more than 8 hours if you are younger.
How do you treat insomnia with music therapy? Insomnia is usually caused by your attitude or behavior, if you can change your attitude or behavior this may change your sleep disorder. Your mind plays a big part of all this. That is how music therapy can help. Music therapy uses binaural beats to stimulate your brain to a high level of relaxation, like a meditated state, to help you fall asleep and stay asleep. Binaural beats is music set to certain frequencies to stimulate a certain part of your brain that allows you to get some sleep. When listening to music therapy, use headphones to get the best results. The music is soft relaxing music, that has sounds of nature like waterfalls, birds, the ocean ect. When buying music therapy cd’s or tapes make sure that it contains binaural beats, because they sell fake ones, that claim to do the same, but do not compare, so be aware. If you have any questions on music therapy or binaural beats see link bellow.

Transferring Music to Your iPod
Many people have heard so much about the iPod and buy one with great enthusiasm only to get home and not know how to transfer music to their new iPod. In this article, we will take you through the steps of putting music on your new iPod.
iPods come in a variety of types and the first thing that we need to do is physically connect the iPod to our computer. Depending on which iPod you have–the Touch, Classic, Nano, or Shuffle–the connection will be pretty much the same.
We will be connecting our iPod up to our computer via the USB port in our computer. However, in most situations, we do not do this directly (except with the old iPod Shuffle). There is an intermediary and this intermediary is in the form of a cable.
Thus, we are going to connect one end of this cable to our iPod and the other end of this cable into our USB port. How do we know which end to plug in to our iPod versus which end to plug into our computer? We are going to use common sense because each end will only fit into one place.
Basically, your iPod just has a couple of inputs. One of them is for the headphones (this is not it) and the other is for the connection to the PC. This is usually found on the bottom of your iPod. The other end, the USB end, can plug into any free USB port on your computer.
Now, your system will recognize that it has a new device connected but you are not yet ready to transfer music to your iPod. Why not?
Well, you need the appropriate software installed to put music on your iPod. This software is called iTunes. Surprisingly, many people ask, “How Can I Get Free iTunes For My iPod” when the reality is that iTunes is a free program.
iTunes is made by Apple computer and is made just for iPods, which are always among the best MP3 players. Thus, you have made a wise decision with your purchase. You will want to download and install iTunes form Apple’s website.
When you install iTunes, make sure that your iPod is connected to your PC and then, after iTunes installs, it will recognize your new iPod.
At this point, you need to tell iTunes where your music is located. If it is already on your computer in the form of MP3, you can tell iTunes where it is by choosing the File, Add Folder to library choice. This folder will be the folder that contains the music on your computer. If all of your music is on CD, you can place the CDs into your computer and it will automatically transfer them to MP3 form. If you have no music, then simply click on the “iTunes Store” and you can buy virtually any music that was ever made.
Once you have your music set up in iTunes, there is just one more simple step–putting the music that’s on your computer into your iPod. In iTunes, the left side of your screen has a “devices” choice where you will see your iPod. By selecting this choice, you will see a new window appear in the right hand side that allows you to “Sync” your music. Thus, you will want to choose the items that you want to synch with your iPod first and then click the synch button.
Depending on your iPod make and model, you will be able to transfer not only music, but photos, movies, and TV shows as well.
You have made a great choice getting an iPod and, after tinkering a bit with iTunes, you will easily learn how to put music onto an iPod.

Shopping For Used Musical Instruments
Buying used musical instruments are one of the great ideas for children and beginners. Students and first time music learners may not spend money on expensive musical instruments. There is no point in investing a huge amount of money in buying musical instruments for children who play in school band or learn at nearby music classes. Used musical instruments will solve their purpose. However, there are important factors to be considered before buying used musical instruments.
While buying a used electric or acoustic guitar one has to check whether the neck is twisted. If the strings are tied close to the fret board at both the ends with a wide gap in middle that means it is warped. A warped guitar does not allow one to play perfectly. And also one has to look for mild scratches or damages which will tell whether the instrument is dropped on the ground. Another essential aspect in used guitar is checking it whether it can be plugged into an amplifier. Especially for electric guitar it is very important to produce quality chords.
One has to ensure that all the valves and slides work properly while buying used metal musical instruments like trombone or trumpet. In reed musical instruments like saxophone and clarinet the mouth piece and clamps crack down over a period of time due to constant wear and tear, but are easily replaceable.
It is always advisable to read instrument manuals and guides properly before buying any used musical instrument. This is essential because used musical instruments carry risks of sudden break down. One needs to take his musical instrument to a service center or even to buy a spare for it. If one is unaware about its technicalities one is buying trouble for himself.
A person may sell his musical instrument for various reasons. There could be a problem with the instrument or could be a genuine desire to go for a better version. It is always advisable to buy used musical instruments from a trusted source. A nearby used musical instrument store would be a great place. Since they are located nearby they can not afford to sell you a substandard used musical instrument fearing their reputation. Another source would be from your friends and close relatives who can tell you the real reason for selling their instruments. Online sources such as eBay are great places for buying a good used musical instrument. However, one has to take care that he is not taken for a ride while buying a used musical instrument.
